Upon first glance, our little town might not seem like the most photogenic place in Northern California. But I promise you, there are so many hidden gems and breathtaking locations if you have the right vision. We have a big, beautiful lake, wildflowers, and waterfalls on Table Mountain. And a few historic sites that have the prettiest landscapes. From nature and landscape shots to families and weddings, our town is the ideal place to create the most stunning photos.
Imagine this, early morning, just before sunrise, the sky begins to shift from a cool blue to warm golden tones as the first light starts to glimmer over the mountains. Perfect for silhouette photos! . As the sun rises higher, the lake comes alive with stunning reflections on the still water, offering some of the most peaceful and photogenic landscapes.
My favorite locations are

Oroville’s historic downtown is full of character, from textured walls and vintage storefronts, our town gives the perfect old timey vibes. Myers street is always so pretty especially during early fall after a little rain. The orange and yellow leaves reflecting off of the wet street creates such a nostalgic and cinematic backdrop.
One of my favorite hidden gems is Miners Alley on Huntoon is the perfect spot to get some portrait shots. I am also so in love with some of the old doorways downtown! They are so charming and make the best places for couples portraits! Look how perfect this photo is of my brother and his girlfriend from their prom session.

Another beautiful spot is the Lott Home on Montgomery, I know if you’re a local this is an obvious one. But it truly is a classic and sometimes underrated spot! And don’t forget about the old Bath House by the river. another classic for locals. Though it’s no longer in use, the nature surrounding it is stunning. If you follow the road past the bathhouse there are a few parking areas with places to picnic and peaceful river views. Perfect for candid lifestyle photography or a quiet place to shoot at golden hour.

This is my most popular location request, it is down a long gravel road but it features a Wide, dry, open grassy field, a small area of trees, and access to the afterbay. This spot is one of my absolute favorites and works for so many different types of sessions!
I have captured family portraits, maternity shoots, engagement sessions and even newborn photos here. No matter the session type this location ALWAYS delivers beautiful images. The magic truly does happen during golden hour and blue hour though. The sun sets right over the horizon, casting a warm golden glow across the open field. Because the area is so flat and wide you can see the full sunset without obstruction. Making this the ideal spot for dreamy backlit shots.
A quick heads up though, it is located down a long, gravel road so be prepared for a bumpy ride. I promise it is so worth it!

Now I know what you might be thinking.. A dog park? For photos??? Yesss!!! The Pat Alley Memorial Dog Park is a true hidden gem in Oroville. I was brought here by one of my very first clients and it has become one of my favorite spots to take photos. The pond literally glows during golden hour. There is a gorgeous willow tree that hangs over the pond and creates a fairytale like scene. It’s truly magical!

I’ll be back soon with some more hidden gems, but for now I’d love to hear your thoughts, do you have a favorite location for pictures in Oroville or Butte County?
